Welcome to the Aesthetician Coach Blog. When it comes to your esthetician business or any business for that matter there are so many hats that you wear on a daily basis. One of the most important is your CEO hat and the mindset that revolves around it. This episode is focusing on helping you create a healthy, positive mindset in your esthetician business and this will help you whether you are working for an employer or you own your own business.

Stepping into the CEO Mindset

Creating a CEO mindset is the foundation for a successful business and balanced career because it puts you in the driver’s seat. It puts you in charge of your career and your choices. At the end of the day, 2 things are always within our control, our choices and our attitude. If you can make good choices and have a good attitude most of the time. Your life and business will thrive. And guess what, if you make a poor decision or a decision that is not aligning with your end goal. You have the power to make a different choice. I think a lot of times we get stuck into thinking that the choices before us are the only choices available to us. If we don’t pick the right one between these two everything will fail. And that’s just not true. There are truly limitless options and choices for you in this life. You are the CEO of your own life. You get to call the shots.

If you don’t like the path your own starting creating a new one, dolly parton you get the idea. So the point is if you don’t like where you are or what you're doing, change it. In a year, you could have a completely different life if you make a different choice one day, one step at a time and in a year you will have a completely different life.

3 things you need to be doing as CEO:

  1. Setting boundaries

  2. Keeping a positive mindset to continue attracting positivity into your life

  3. Staying focused on personal growth

Setting & Embracing Boundaries with a CEO Mindset

Let’s talk about boundaries. Do you have them? Successful business leaders set boundaries and stick to them. This helps protect your time, your energy and your vision. They’re going to be essential to sustaining and growing your business.

Time Boundaries

Set Clear Working Hours: Define your work hours and communicate them to your clients. Do your best to avoid responding to messages or appointments requests outside of these hours to help maintain work-life balance and I get it. This can be a work in progress and that’s okay. Keep working towards that goal within just working during those set hours and making the most of your schedule. Blocking hours for specific tasks is a great way to help you with this.

Enforce Cancellation and Late Policies: Having a strict but fair cancellation and late policy is going to be one of the best decisions you can make for yourself and your business. This is going to help protect your time and will help your clients respect your schedule. Don’t be afraid to start charging fees for last-minute cancellations or no-shows and stick to it. You may get push back from clients but those that respect you and your time are going to understand. And those that don’t understand, do you really want them as a client? When I was an esthetician, I did fire clients that were chronic no shows because I only got paid for if I had an appointment so by doing that I taught my clients how to treat me. Have you heard the saying, “you teach people how to treat you.” It’s true, what you are willing to allow or not allow will continue to show up for you. So if you keep allowing your clients to show up late, reschedule often or cancel at the last minute with no consequence, guess what? They are going to keep doing it. What incentive do your clients have to do anything differently?

Communication Boundaries

Use a professional booking platform and if you can have a separate business line rather than your personal phone. This keeps client communication through your business and overall just helps set those communication boundaries and helps you separate the two and enjoy your time away from the treatment room.

Another helpful strategy is to set an expected response time for emails and messages, letting clients know when they can expect to hear back. This keeps communication organized and reduces the pressure to respond straight away.

Keeping a Positive Mindset and Creating a Positive Workplace

Shift into a Positive CEO Mindset

To maintain a positive CEO mindset, it’s crucial to build your environment and interactions on purpose.

A CEO who cultivates positivity leads by example—

  1. Instead of focusing on problems, you're focused on seeing the opportunity and the solution.

  2. Instead of feeling sorry for yourself or bummed about this or that, your focusing on celebrating your wins (both big and small)

  3. Instead of assuming you know…… you're encouraging open communication with your clients, your staff or your co-workers. You are openly communicating and letting them know that you have the same expectation in return.

This mindset requires actively discouraging negative self-talk and toxic conversations with your team or your co-workers. You're just not allowing that to be a part of your day to day. It’s about setting the tone for being optimistic, for collaborating, and continuing to be proactive at problem-solving, creating a positive work space and mindset.

Have you ever noticed when you're around someone that’s being negative or in a bad mood that it can rub off on you or your co-workers. And soon you're all on the train to negative town. Talking about how bad this or that is and it can happen quickly. You have to proactively be aware and shift not only your mindset sometimes but others mindset.

The good news is the opposite can happen, when you're around someone that’s seeing all the possibilities and they are upbeat and excited, and they're coming up with new ideas….. it can be contagious, right? You are the CEO and you need to set that tone to be a leader not only for yourself but for others.

I know that some days are going to be better than others. Sometimes we need someone else to speak positivity into us, right? So be mindful of that, know that you're going to have those tough days and when you're feeling down and you need to pick me up. Who is that person that has your back, that will speak positivity into your life and lift you up. That’s who you want to surround yourself with. So having that CEO mindset means surrounding yourself with people that are of a likemind and that are staying positive and focused and building others up.

Designing Your CEO Workspace

Your workspace should embody the vision and energy that makes you excited to show up each day. Your space can make a huge difference in your energy and your attitude. The goal is to combine elements that boost creativity, focus and provide a calming grounded space for you and your clients.

Think about things that inspire you, positive quotes, pretty art work- things that speak to you and take time to create a space that you want to be in that your clients want to be in. When I was in the treatment room I loved having a salt lamp. I also love crystals. I’ve always loved using crystals to ground my space and my energy. Because as you know, being an esthetician requires a lot of emotional and physical energy from us. I would frequently have black tourmaline, hematite, rose quartz and amethyst. Those were some of my favorites. Plants are also an amazing air purifier and they give good vibes to any space.

Be intentional with every item in your treatment room or your office. The things around you should support a space that fuels your energy and productivity.

Mindfulness Practices and Self-Care for Success

Mindful daily habits are non-negotiable for a CEO-level mindset. You have to commit to giving yourself time each day for you to set the tone for your day.

Starting your day with meditation, prayer and visualization are great ways to be mindful. Think about how you want your day to go? The goals that you want to accomplish and set clear intentions. Next, imagine your goals for the day accomplished and feel that emotion of success and gratitude. Begin each day with gratitude. What are 3 things you are grateful for? It will instantly make you feel good and put you in a good mood. The mindset of gratitude opens the floodgates to receive. When you have a genuine heart of gratitude, I believe life flows and works for you.

Letting Go of What No Longer Serves You

What is holding you back? Because whatever it is, you gotta let it go. Is it a toxic client? Is it services that don't align with your financial goals? Is it a toxic employer or employee?

It’s important as CEO of your career and life to continually evaluate and release what is not in alignment with your goals and growth. Sometimes you have to walk away from what you don’t want to make room for the things that you do. Let go and make space for what aligns with your soul purpose.

Prioritize your goals in all areas of your life. Say no to things or people and shift your mindset to release anything that is not serving you or your investment in long-term growth in your career. Be mindful of your energy and the people and things you are allowing to take space in your life.

Staying Focused on Your Own Journey and personal growth, not the Competition

As CEO you set your own pace: That means we need to put our blinders on and not get so caught up in what everyone else is doing. Don’t get sidetracked or consumed by where others are on their path. Instead, be focused on your journey and what you are trying to create and scale. Stay focused on your goals and strengths. If anything, look to others for inspiration, but don’t spend time in comparison because that’s not your journey and no one else can be you.

Here are the Top 3 things to build and sustain your CEO Mindset

  1. Develop a Self-Care Routine: CEO’s take care of themselves. Create daily habits that feed your soul and fuel your body. Because you can’t fill someone else’s cup if yours is empty. So spend some time fueling your mind and body through meditation, prayer, working out and eating healthy. Make a list of 3 things you're going to start doing today to prioritize your self-care routine. Taking care of you will give you more energy and help you avoid burn-out.

  1. Reflection and Growth: At the end of every week, set aside 15-30 minutes and reflect on what went well, what didn’t and where you want to focus your energy for next week. This will help you improve your focus and keep you on track.

  1. Stay Consistent: Cultivating a CEO mindset is an ongoing journey. Setting boundaries, keeping a positive mindset and continuing to stay focused on your personal growth is what will keep you and your energy in a good space.

My quote for you today: “You’ll never get from where you are to where you want to be if you keep your focus on the fact that you are not there yet. See is the way you desire and feel it “as if” it is happening.” Kristen Butler

This is the law of attraction, feeling as though it’s already yours. Imagine your biggest goal happening right now. What would that feel like? Live in that space, that happiness, that success. Create that feeling of gratitude that your dream has come true. Creating your biggest desires and goals starts in the mind.

I'll see you next week same time, same place.
